Image result for images related to short story             If we are asked what is meant by a short story, only we need to say , it is  a story which is Short. The capital letters may suggests that the short story is a form having rules of its own but short story is a brief work of literature ,usually written  in narrative prose. Short Story with a fully developed theme but significantly shorter and less elaborate than a Novel.
            
        In Contemporary Fiction, a Short Story can range 1,000 to 20,000 words. Because of shorter length a short story usually focuses on one plot, one main character and one central theme whereas Novel can tackle multiple plots and themes with variety of prominent  characters. Short Story is usually concerned with a single effect conveyed in only one or few significant.
    
        Short Story is a short work of fiction as you know is prose writing about imagined events and characters. Short Story is a short piece of fiction aiming at unity of characterization, theme and event. The setting of a short story is time and place in which it happens. Authors often use descriptions of landscapes, Scenery, buildings, seasons or weather to provide a strong sense of setting.

        Short Story creates a single specific effect and more compressed than novels. Short Story does not have subplots , as varied as novel that it came from such genres as horror, fantasy, romance, erotica, adventure and science fiction. It  can be romantic, sexy , satirical, cynical , bleak or optimistic.
        
       Literary Short Story focuses more on characters and tones than plot. In most cases it avoid other genres. Critics and Literary Historians sometimes speak of the short story as though it were sometimes new product of the 19th century and first half of 20th .
